June 2023 Update

We have arrived in Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea! Thank you so much for praying over our journey. We all remained healthy the entire time, made every connection, and arrived with all of our luggage (It was quite a lot). Praise God!

This crew has logged a lot of airline travel!
We just happened to cross paths with Aaron’s mentor and his wife in the hangar at Port Moresby! We are arriving and they are departing. How kind of the Lord to give us some time catching up with this inspirational and encouraging couple.

We all quickly felt “at home,” though we have a mixture of hellos and goodbyes this summer. Please say a prayer over graduates and their families, as this transition is the biggest of all for the graduate, parents, and siblings. There are individuals and families leaving Papua New Guinea for good. We love our community here in Ukarumpa and can feel the weight of a lot of emotions.

Aaron is headed to Kokopo and Sivauna this week. Please pray for productive and edifying communication regarding the Mamusi translation with priests and bishops at the Diocese in Kokopo. The new priest in Sivauna halted the translation work while we were gone, so we’ve got some investigating and mediation to do. Thanks for prayers regarding this, as Aaron needs the Holy Spirit’s guidance for logistics, direction, and words. Please pray for the right people to be in the same place at the same time, as communication ahead of time is difficult.

Our family after Mass in Kokopo in 2020. It’s been such an honor to partner with the Catholic Church on the island of New Britain to begin the Mamusi New Testament.
Our community in Sivauna gathering for worship. Thanks for prayers that the Mamusi community will someday have the complete Scripture in their own language.

UPDATE: Aaron had a very successful and productive meeting at the Diocese in Kokopo! Thank you for praying! He will depart for the village, Sivauna, in the morning. He’s taking a commercial route instead of using SIL Aviation, which means more driving and wildcards with commercial flights. Please pray over these logistics with us, as well as his safety as he returns to Sivauna to communicate about his meetings with our people. They will need to plan the next year and how to move forward with the Translation. Rebekah and the kids are doing well in Ukarumpa. You are loved and appreciated, friends.

We also need your prayers that our monthly financial needs will be met 100%! God is ultimately our Provider, is unaffected by inflation, and we trust His plans for us.

Our last flight from Port Moresby to Ukarumpa is in an SIL Kodiak, flown by a missionary pilot, and where everyone gets a window seat!

Good morning again and thank you for resending! So glad that you’re back and ready to resume your work in PNG! Yes, we will be praying for Aaron as he returns to Sivauna – that God will reopen the translation work in order to touch lives for His kingdom. May God’s presence always be “fresh” and continue to protect you as you share Christ to so many!

    Our love to all!

P.S. And a “special” hug for those precious children!
